Mirroring is part of Motherboards series initiated in 2023 for the solo exhibition Hesse Flatow Gallery and later expanded for the solo exhibition Call of the Forest at Kunsthalle Praha in 2025. The series weaves together visual motifs of tree branches and electrical wires—two seemingly opposing elements that intersect throughout the streets of Brooklyn, where the artists are based. While materially distinct, both trees and cables function as conduits of energy and power. By treating them a like, Kristyna and Marek Milde merge these parallel systems into a cohesive visual language, emphasizing their shared role as carriers of essential forces.
Originating as photographs, the images are subsequently transformed through the use of printed circuit boards, lending them an abstract, graphic quality defined by the boards’ characteristic green surfaces and reflective gold finishes. Referencing conductivity and the flow of energy, Motherboards becomes a metaphor for interconnected systems—linking technology, ecology, and the reciprocal relationship between humans and the natural world.
Commissioned as part of the Kunsthalle Praha Invites series, which supports Czech artists in developing new, research-based projects.
